ABAE Lands Biggest Ever Climate Control Contract
July 2005

UK, Cardiff – AB Automotive Electronics Limited (ABAE), a subsidiary of global electronics manufacturing company TT electronics plc, is supplying the climate controls for GM’s Chevrolet Cobalt - Chevrolet’s replacement vehicle for the compact Cavalier, launched in the US in Autumn 2004 - through a leading tier 1 systems integrator.

The vehicle is proving to be a big hit, with sales exceeding expectations over the last quarter, and in June 2005, the Cobalt entered the top-10 vehicle sellers list in the US coming in ninth, just behind the Ford Explorer and ahead of the Ford Taurus.

The electronic climate controls supplied by ABAE are being produced in two finishes – satin nickel and ebony, to complement the Cobalt’s high quality interior design and trim levels with a heater-only variant also available. The controls are manufactured in Cardiff and then shipped to the customer’s facility in Lordstown, Ohio.

ABAE’s multi-disciplined engineering team - based at its technical centre in Cardiff – worked in partnership with the project’s team of engineers to design the controls meeting Chevrolet’s specifications. Full technical and sales support is provided locally by specialist staff based at ABAE's Detroit office.

David Oates, Managing Director of AB Automotive Electronics says:

“With several more climate products in the pipeline for forthcoming vehicles in North America, this programme is a great example of how our UK and US facilities complement each other. Our localised sales and technical support, in addition to manufacturing and design excellence in the UK, is testament to the continued success of ABAE in the North American market.”
